Mercy Hospital, South Buffalo News among award winners at chamber event
Seven awards were presented at the Greater South Buffalo Chamber of Commerce’s 10th anniversary awards dinner held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Lodge Auction House in South Buffalo.
One hundred and twenty guests were on hand as awards were presented to Mercy Hospital (Business of the Year/Big Business); South Buffalo News/Front Page Group (Business of the Year/Small Business); Theresa Schuta, Educator of the Year; Bill Conroy, Community Service; Fran Desiderio, Chamber Ambassador; Tony Scaccia, Tony’s Hair Styling, Longevity Award; and Mark Schroeder, Founder’s Award.
“South Buffalo is a great and unique neighborhood, and the people who received these awards are what make it great,†said Kevin Overdorf, chairman of the board for the chamber.
The event also was an installation for the chamber’s board of directors. Board members include chairman Kevin Overdorf, Overdorf Associates, Inc.; Brandon Minsterman, Key Bank; Samantha Rusek, CPA; Bradford Watts, People Inc.; Fran Desiderio, Desi’s Produce; Melanie Griffis, Mercy Hospital; Deborah Cammarata, Trocaire College; Melissa Gehman, MLS Metal Locking Service and West Metal Works, Inc.; Ben Coughlin, WNY Metro Roberts Realty; and Justin Steinwandel, Tosh Collins Community Center.
Sponsors included Rigidized Metals, Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, Buffalo Comptroller Mark Schroeder, Mike Roeder’s Basil ReSale South, Trocaire College, Desi’s Produce, Wilde Art Vinyl & Graphics, and Rocklyn Printing.
Many advertisers also supported the event program.
Event chairman was Brandon Minsterman of Key Bank, vice chairman of the board of directors for the chamber.
Committee members included all chamber board members and Robin Rush, chamber social media manager.
Desiree Desiderio sang a moving edition of “The Prayer†before dinner, and Sujeet Desai played music during dinner.
Chamber director Ann Enger presented the awards.
